Our stables are only 19 miles from
the port of Plymouth which gives us an easy access into France (weather
permitting). We also operate via the ports of Poole in Dorset and
Portsmouth in Hampshire. On all these crossings we like to use Brittany
Ferries as they do have better conditions.
|
The weather can be a deciding factor in the
travel plans. Any wind speed over a force 5 and the shipping companies
will not take livestock onboard, this is down to the individual ferry
Captain and his word is final. During the winter months this can be a
nightmare, but we make good use of the Met Office web site to see what the
weather is doing and make decisions accordingly as to what port we can
hope to use.
| For all horses and ponies moving abroad, we like to take the stress out of
the move for our clients - we process the DEFRA paperwork for them. Where
it is convenient we bring the horses or ponies back to our yard whilst the
owners are carrying out their family move - it helps not to have to worry
about the horses. If there is any DEFRA paperwork requiring a vet or the
state vet to visit then we have the facilities to hand. For processing the
relevant health and export licence we like to have all the details about
12 to 15 working days before travelling so that if there is any hic-cups
then they can be straightened out.
To the subject of the “passport”, we strongly recommend that if you don’t
have a breed society passport that you get one of the new passports as
soon as possible. We have the latest list of approved societies for
issuing these passports. This is one piece of paperwork that we cannot
help you with. If you give yourself 5 to 6 weeks depending on the society
that should be long enough to get that piece of documentation through
(some can take longer, be warned).
