P & L Luck Horse
Transport is a Husband and Wife run business.
Established in 1991.
We started from small beginnings
with a 2 horse (3 ½ tonne) vehicle and our own 2 horses to move
around to local, county and national shows.
We realised that this vehicle
should pay its own way and from that we have now evolved to running
two 9 horse lorries and owning 10 horses.
It would have been
nice if we were running 10 lorries and owning 18 horses
but that’s life!
Our stabling has changed dramatically, starting
from a small open barn for two horses on just 2 acres of rented land
and evolving to an 80ft x 40ft barn with 17 internal stables on our own 14 acres
of pastureland.
Our horizons have also expanded from only working
relatively locally to covering the whole of the UK and
specializing on runs into
Europe - particularly accross France and down into Spain.
With the recent addition of our
Renault Magnum 9 horse lorry, we now have the capacity to move up to
18 horses to one destination simultaneously.
Our Vehicles
DAF
85: This was originally an artic tractor unit that we had "stretched", so that
the 330HP engine designed for pulling 38 tonnes now has only to pull a
maximum of 18 tonnes (if we every get close to that weight). This
means that once on the motorways, autobahns and auto routes we can
maintain the constant speed set by the speed limiter (89km/h or
55mph) - hills are not a problem.
Renault Magnum: The magnum
was also originally an artic unit that we have had "stretched". At
430HP the Magnum is even more capable than the DAF. So, once again,
hills are not a problem - the mountains in Spain are made easy work.
Both vehicles run on air suspension - this
gives a smooth ride and the
added bonus when loading and unloading of being able to adjust the
height of the ramp. We have CCTV cameras in the horse areas so that
we can keep an eye on our passengers. The partitions go from the
floor of the lorry to 5ft and all the animals are cross-tied
allowing movement of the heads up and down but restricted sideways.
We have found over the years that horses, being a herd animal, like
to see their "neigh bour" (sorry couldn’t resist it..) |
